The remaining kids came home from school one day.
Maia was good. Juku was in a mood. The same angry moodswing JT had died from. And Todd too a long time ago.
Todd rushed right over and tried putting his parenting skills into action. From experience too.
But Juku was just angry.
And just like his twin brother and his dad...
Todd was confused as to why his parenting didn't help nor his support from experience.
How horrible! Maia saw the whole thing too. Mum was at the other end of their land, busy.
Todd didn't catch the grim reaper but he made sure Juku stayed around.
And with that, Kylli was done with life. She quit her job and withdrew from everyone and everything. She had reached the top of her retail career anyway. She changed from chatty and helpfully weather immune to no sense of humour, non-committal and a misanthrope. She just wanted to be alone.
Todd was a changed man too.
Both of the parents changed drastically. Todd went from positive, hyper and mischievous to heavy drinker, drowsy and light eater. He had sadly liked drinking before so it was an easy way to him. Plus he, by aspiration, wanted to sleep a lot. In the tent, alone, which was set up in their front yard.
And Maia...
Was she the heiress now!? She didn't want to though. She just wanted to be a kid with two older brothers.
Soon after this, Kylli showed signs of her end nearing too.
Todd was an old man himself and wanted to secure the legacy's future and just in case keep Maia safe. They did plan on resurrecting Juku though. But! It was time to find someone to look after Maia. And long lost, non-blood-related Goldsmiths were contacted. Malachi and Brayan Goldsmith. April's twin sons. And yeah Todd hadn't kept in touch with them much.
While Todd was out, Kylli tried summoning Juku's spirit. Using the Book of Life she had written. How scarily foreseeing!?
The boy didn't show up. Mum kept trying.
This whole thing made Maia even more rebellious. She herself was a dangerously angry child. Plus to keep herself safe and well, mostly the legacy, she was given a major responsibility. She had to get dad some of that youth potion to keep him alive longer. Just in case! And both of the parents had wasted-slash-spent their lifely currency on Juku's sleep replacements and fun potions when he was very sick and then the major trait change happened for them. Maia with her little kid aspirational perks was the closest to getting that potion. She had to work for this! Hard as dad was nearing the end too.
As Todd tried finding someone to help, mum had completely given up. She had seen and experienced too much of this horrible stuff in her lifetime with the Goldsmiths. She spent her time alone, plants and bees.
Juku's friend Haych offered support.
Dad got a hold of one of April's twins, Malachi. He didn't seem to like being noticed only when things get rough.
The parents had tried to get Juku out. And he simply wouldn't show. They took his gravestone to the graveyard.
But he didn't show there either.
Back home, Kylli and Maia struggled to get along. Mum hated humans and Maia didn't like mum.
Todd tried hard to get one of the younger Goldsmiths to move in with them.
Luckily Malachi budged. And yeah... they were some rich dudes! The Sulani Goldsmiths were doing quite well financially but Willow Creek Goldsmiths (Engel's their dad's name) were loaded!
Malachi moved in. He was an aspiring athlete. He was also a born salesperson, naturally thin and an early bird.
He was taken out of his own life so he didn't have too great of an interest in living here so he tried to get Juku out too.
It's like something started happening but ended up not happening.
